Summer in Quebec

Good Morning!

Hope everything is going well, especially with the move coming up! This week was quite enjoyable. It`s been getting quite warm lately. Sweating a lot. That`s also because I have been having great morning exercises. I went for a run this morning, it was great! You feel so much better when you are healthy, and eating right. Speaking of eating right, we had a barbecue yesterday with the Russell`s. it was so good! Followed by a delicious strawberry shortcake. I don`t know if you believe me or not, but I do eat fruit now. Not all the time, but quite often.

Yesterday I gave a talk in Sacrament meeting. I was a little nervous because the night before I had a dream that I went to speak and couldn`t make myself talk! Good thing that didn`t actually come to happen. I gave a talk about Hastening the Work of Salvation. It was a missionary Sunday, something the ward does, where the 5th Sunday all the talks and prayers are missionaries. We even had a musical number. We sang "Called to Serve" (in French of course).

This time of year in Quebec is when everyone moves. Over the last week, everyday we helped at least one person to move things from their apartments. Mostly fridges and ovens and what not. We will be helping a family move tonight as well.

My studies this week have been really rewarding. I have been learning a lot. Mostly I feel I am really understanding the principles I have known for so long. Thanks for teaching me! It is interesting how much time it can take to truly understand something, not just know it.

I think I will send some pictures now, love you so much! Have an excellent week!

Time for the countdown?

Good Morning!

Everything is going well thanks. We received our transfer calls on Saturday... I will be... STAYING!
Another transfer here in Sherbrooke with Elder Gonzalez... my last transfer. Crazy. I should e-mail next Monday as usual. The young men in our ward are going camping this week too.(I had mentioned that both Lewis and Austin will be going on Young Men's camp next week) I`ll definitely help Lew with that and Preach My Gospel so we can get ready for his mission! Hey I have my box to send by bus, I haven`t sent it because I don`t know where to send it. I guess I should just send it to the new house. I need the address though. Also, I haven`t seen pictures of the new house. Glad that Austin had a good year at school. Good luck with school and tests this week.

Monday:

Tacos with Dominic! They were alright, we made them, so I can say that. It was fun though. Played some soccer too. Then we went to Family Home Evening at the church.

Tuesday:

I`m having trouble remembering what we did because I left my old planner at home.

We taught the gospel, visited wonderful people. Helped people feel loved. Went to John`s for breakfast on Saturday (french toast)! Translated at Church yesterday, into English. It was actually a little bit of a slower week, but we are really motivated to find a family ready to accept the Gospel.

Oh, and yesterday we went to the Moreno`s for Mexican food! It was delicious.

This week I was studying Chapter 5 in Preach My Gospel about the Book of Mormon. I love the Book of Mormon, it helps me so much to feel the Spirit. It helps me to learn more of our Saviour. It is so important. What a great gift from our Father in Heaven.

Don`t get me wrong mom, I am pumped to be able to see you. (I was telling him how incredibly excited I am to see him...and I haven't told him much that I miss him or that I can't wait to see him because I didn't want him to be homesick...but now that it's only 6 weeks...I caved!  I told him that it's okay if he doesn't feel the same yet...lol...he's got work to do still!) I know I will not have the chance to serve the Lord in this way again, that is what is sad.

Love you!

New experiences continually...

Good Morning,

Hope all is well :)

We just keep having great weeks, well that`s life right, taking everything one step at a time, and finding joy in every one. First off Happy Father`s day Dad! Hope you all had an excellent weekend. Second Happy Birthday Lewis! 17 already. Wow. Have a super day tomorrow. Hope exams are going well. Keep up the good work! Great that the house sold, that`s awesome. Great to hear Mitch is back out there, and with Aaron, they will make a great team. Just two weeks left for Aaron though. Going into
Real Estate, good idea! (My next adventure...Real Estate!) Actually that reminds of some new ideas for my future plans. Our week went as follows.

Monday:

Had dinner with the James family, they are awesome! They are moving to Halifax in a few weeks, and they actually met Elder Nzojibwami up there. Then we had a lesson with Dominic at the Jette`s home. He wants to be baptized, he is so sincere, also helps that his best friend is a member.

Tuesday:

Went to the Salvador`s again. Oh and we were teaching a family, then they moved, and we didn`t know where, so last week we saw them driving down a street, we went back there and found them again! So that was a cool miracle.

Wednesday:

Good district meeting, and dinner with the Beaudouin`s. Made tons of cookies and dropped them off for people!

Thursday:

I was on exchanges with Elder Lucas (from Tahiti). We had a great day. Met some nice Nigerian ladies that invited us in, but we were just us two so we couldn`t enter, hopefully they call us back. Taught Hans, a member in the ward from Germany. He has met four prophets and a bunch of apostles. Super nice man. Also we dropped by a recent convert, Carol. Turns out she met the Haitian lady we found last week, and talked to her for hours about the church! Then she invited her to come on Sunday. That was amazing!

Friday:

We had a traditional Québecois meal at the Laroche`s house. We had poutine! And a desert that is like cinnamon buns made with pie crust. It was pretty good. Then read scriptures with the Champagne`s!

Saturday:

Lessons all day with African families! Brought Brother Kikongi, he is from Congo, but has been here for a long time. He is the former Bishop. It was sweet!

Sunday:

Went in the morning early to Sister Quijano (72 year old lady from El Salvador) to take the bus with her to church. Directed the music. Sundaes for the men after the meetings! Aubert came with us all day. Had a lesson in the psychiatric ward of the hospital... yup. Oh and dinner with the James again.

I was reading President Packer`s talk from the last General Conference. It is amazing. I was really touched by the beginning where he explains that of all the titles He could of chosen for us to address Him, He chose `Father`. I am so grateful that we have a loving Heavenly Father, and that you and Dad have been such great examples to us. I love our Saviour and know He lives. I know that like Elder Packer says in his talk that the whole purpose of the Gospel is to bless us with happy families. In Preach My Gospel, I was studying Chapter 5 about the Book of Mormon, I am grateful the Lord blessed us with additional scriptures to increase our understanding of the Gospel. I know that is true. Have a great week mom.

Here is the talk he referred to:

The Witness

Times of war or uncertainty have a way of sharpening our focus on things that really matter.
World War II was a time of great spiritual turmoil for me. I had left my home in Brigham City, Utah, with only embers of a testimony, and I felt the need for something more. Virtually our whole senior class in a matter of weeks was on its way to the war zone. While stationed on the island of Ie Shima, just north of Okinawa, Japan, I struggled with doubt and uncertainty. I wanted a personal testimony of the gospel. I wanted toknow!
During one sleepless night, I left my tent and entered a bunker which had been formed by lining up 50-gallon fuel drums filled with sand and placed one on top of the other to form an enclosure. There was no roof, and so I crawled in, looked up at the star-filled sky, and knelt to pray.
Almost mid-sentence it happened. I could not describe to you what happened if I were determined to do so. It is beyond my power of expression, but it is as clear today as it was that night more than 65 years ago. I knew it to be a very private, very individual manifestation. At last I knew for myself. I knew for a certainty, for it had been given to me. After some time, I crawled from that bunker and walked, or floated, back to my bed. I spent the rest of the night in a feeling of joy and awe.
Far from thinking I was someone special, I thought that if such a thing came to me, that it could come to anyone. I still believe that. In the years that have followed, I have come to understand that such an experience is at once a light to follow and a burden to carry.
I wish to share with you those truths which are the most worth knowing, the things that I have learned and experienced in nearly 90 years of life and over 50 years as a General Authority. Much of what I have come to know falls into the category of things which cannot be taught but can be learned.
Like most things of great worth, knowledge which is of eternal value comes only through personal prayer and pondering. These, joined with fasting and scripture study, will invite impressions and revelations and the whisperings of the Holy Spirit. This provides us with instruction from on high as we learn precept upon precept.
The revelations promise that “whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection” and that “knowledge and intelligence [are gained] through … diligence and obedience” (D&C 130:18–19).
One eternal truth that I have come to know is that God lives. He is our Father. We are His children. “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost” (Articles of Faith 1:1).
Of all the other titles that He could have used, He chose to be called “Father.” The Savior commanded, “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven” (3 Nephi 13:9; see also Matthew 6:9). His use of the name “Father” is a lesson for all as we come to understand what it is that matters most in this life.
Parenthood is a sacred privilege, and depending upon faithfulness, it can be an eternal blessing. The ultimate end of all activity in the Church is that a man and his wife and their children can be happy at home.
Those who do not marry or those who cannot have children are not excluded from the eternal blessings they seek but which, for now, remain beyond their reach. We do not always know how or when blessings will present themselves, but the promise of eternal increase will not be denied any faithful individual who makes and keeps sacred covenants.
Your secret yearnings and tearful pleadings will touch the heart of both the Father and the Son. You will be given a personal assurance from Them that your life will be full and that no blessing that is essential will be lost to you.
As a servant of the Lord, acting in the office to which I have been ordained, I give those in such circumstances a promise that there will be nothing essential to your salvation and exaltation that shall not in due time rest upon you. Arms now empty will be filled, and hearts now hurting from broken dreams and yearning will be healed.
Another truth I have come to know is that the Holy Ghost is real. He is the third member of the Godhead. His mission is to testify of truth and righteousness. He manifests Himself in many ways, including feelings of peace and reassurance. He can also bring comfort, guidance, and correction when needed. The companionship of the Holy Ghost is maintained throughout our lives by righteous living.
The gift of the Holy Ghost is conferred through an ordinance of the gospel. One with authority lays his hands on the head of a new member of the Church and says words such as these: “Receive the Holy Ghost.”
This ordinance alone does not change us in a noticeable way, but if we listen and follow the promptings, we will receive the blessing of the Holy Ghost. Each son or daughter of our Heavenly Father can come to know the reality of Moroni’s promise: “By the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things” (Moroni 10:5; emphasis added).
A supernal truth that I have gained in my life is my witness of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Foremost and underpinning all that we do, anchored throughout the revelations, is the Lord’s name, which is the authority by which we act in the Church. Every prayer offered, even by little children, ends in the name of Jesus Christ. Every blessing, every ordinance, every ordination, every official act is done in the name of Jesus Christ. It is His Church, and it is named for Him—The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (see D&C 115:4).
There is that great incident in the Book of Mormon where the Nephites “were praying unto the Father in [the Lord’s] name.” The Lord appeared and asked:
“What will ye that I shall give unto you?
“And they said unto him: Lord, we will that thou wouldst tell us the name whereby we shall call this church; for there are disputations among the people concerning this matter.
“And the Lord said unto them: Verily, verily, I say unto you, why is it that the people should murmur and dispute because of this thing?
“Have they not read the scriptures, which say ye must take upon you the name of Christ, which is my name? For by this name shall ye be called at the last day;
“And whoso taketh upon him my name, and endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. …
“Therefore, whatsoever ye shall do, ye shall do it in my name; therefore ye shall call the church in my name; and ye shall call upon the Father in my name that he will bless the church for my sake” (3 Nephi 27:2–7).
It is His name, Jesus Christ, “for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
In the Church we know who He is: Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He is the Only Begotten of the Father. He is He who was slain and He who liveth again. He is our Advocate with the Father. “Remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that [we] must build [our] foundation” (Helaman 5:12). He is the anchor that holds us and protects us and our families through the storms of life.
Each Sunday across the world where congregations gather of any nationality or tongue, the sacrament is blessed with the same words. We take upon ourselves the name of Christ and always remember Him. That is imprinted upon us.
The prophet Nephi declared, “We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins” (2 Nephi 25:26).
Each of us must come to our own personal testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. We then share that testimony with our family and others.
In all of this, let us remember that there is an adversary who personally seeks to disrupt the work of the Lord. We must choose whom to follow. Our protection is as simple as deciding individually to follow the Savior, making certain that we faithfully will remain on His side.
In the New Testament, John records that there were some who were unable to commit to the Savior and His teachings, and “from that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
“Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
“Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
“And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God” (John 6:66–69).
Peter had gained that which can be learned by each follower of the Savior. To be faithfully devoted to Jesus Christ, we accept Him as our Redeemer and do all within our power to live His teachings.
After all the years that I have lived and taught and served, after the millions of miles I have traveled around the world, with all that I have experienced, there is one great truth that I would share. That is my witness of the Savior Jesus Christ.
Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon recorded the following after a sacred experience:
“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!
“For we saw him” (D&C 76:22–23).
Their words are my words.
I believe and I am sure that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that He lives. He is the Only Begotten of the Father, and “by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:24).
I bear my witness that the Savior lives. I know the Lord. I am His witness. I know of His great sacrifice and eternal love for all of Heavenly Father’s children. I bear my special witness in all humility but with absolute certainty, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

He's an Uncle!

I`m an UNCLE!

That is so cool! Being an uncle now. Kinda reminds me that I am almost a quarter century old (as Elder Gonzalez regularly reminds me). I was so happy when Sister Desjourdy called to let me know. Their family is sweet. We had a fantastic week, packed with many awesome experiences.
I`m happy the house sold, that`s great news, most importantly that everyone is healthy (especially Calvin). This is how my week went:

Tuesday:

We had Zone Conference in Longueuil, so I got to see Elder Fontaine again. President taught us, it was great! We had dinner with the Kikongi family, they are also awesome. Then read scriptures with Yannick, a member that was baptized about a year ago. Zone conferences are always really inspiring, I received a lot of needed direction. It was a little sad though, because it was my last one.

Wednesday:

Great afternoon lesson in the park with Louise-Elizabeth. Also, the Barrios family for dinner. Good stuff.

Thursday:

Lunch with the Bergeron family, Shepherd`s pie! Met with a member from Iran that hasn`t been out to church in a while. It was a good meeting. I  understand more how it feels when the scriptures say to `have compassion` for someone. He had forgotten most of what he had learned, I hope we can help to rekindle his joy.

Friday:

We did service for the Salvador family, helping weed their yard, and they had a barbeque with us! Great homemade burgers! Then it was cool because without being asked we started doing dishes. Sister Salvador was pumped, then she asked us to visit her friend! Best way to gain trust... serve!

Saturday:

In the morning, we helped John with some yard work... I got sunburn. He took us out to Subway afterwords. Then we took the family from Central Africa for a tour of the church. It was awesome.

Sunday:

It was our Ward Conference too. Stake leaders all came. Elder Gonzalez and did the sharing time in Primary about priesthood ordinances. Aubert came out with us all day, he is going on a mission  to New York in August. Elder Nzojibwami was here when Aubert was baptized! We taught a Haitian lady and her daughter! Then went to the Desjourdy`s for dinner, as you know. She was so nice to send you all those pictures.

I bought sunscreen today, so don`t worry. Also this week was cool because we kept seeing the Lord`s hand in the work we were doing. Everytime we were just stopped somewhere or walking down the street, we run into people that we needed to see. All these un-coincidental coincidences just show who is in charge. I love that Heavenly Father guides us everyday.

Love you so much!

Inspiration

I LOVE YOU!

Great news! Pray that the inspection goes well. (we sold our house and are just waiting for the the home inspection to be completed and the condition waived!) That`s awesome! What does the new house look like? I bet the other people will be happy to. Neighbors to the Nzojibwami`s! Yes!

I`m an Uncle! `faints` (7 Brides for 7 Brothers)
Cool. Hope all goes well with the procedure. (lol  We love the movie 7 Brides for 7 Brothers...so that was a little joke...relating to Kaitlin having a c-section this week, June 5th...so Taylor will be an Uncle!)

This week flew by! Let me think of the most notable things. We did some service this week, did some painting! I am grateful for the times we painted, gave me the skills necessary to do a good job. Thanks mom.

We helped a member pack things up to move, then he bought us pizza! The slices were huge! We then were going to an appointment and needed to catch the bus. Just as we were coming to the bus, it pulled away. We tried to catch it... going up the steepest hill in town. Needless to say we didn`t make it. But we still had the pizza so it was awesome!

Super cool experience. We were at Church a little early for our District meeting, and were the only ones in the church. I was reading my scriptures while Elder Gonzalez was practicing the organ. It was pretty loud. I had a thought to go and stand by the door on the other side of the chapel. It was kind of weird to get up and go there but I did it. All of a sudden, the phone in the hall rang. I was conveniently located in a position to both hear and go to the phone promptly. I answered and it was a man in the hospital. He asked if he could have someone visit him. We didn`t let this opportunity slip passed us. We went by and visited with him, and it was amazing, he kept complimenting us for being humble, it made us really happy. I found out pretty quickly why I was supposed to be standing by the door.

We taught some lessons in Spanish this week. That was fun. Got to practice Spanish un poco.

Saturday was cool. We had the best lunch with the Russell family, with a delicious chocolate cake. Then Brother Beauregard drove us to Longueuil for the Saturday session of Stake Conference. We helped with a youth activity. It was awesome! I will show you pictures. They made a picture in the parking lot about our beliefs, and filmed it, it should be on youtube in the near future so they can share it with their friends.

So we had a pretty good week. I have been studying the importance of family history. It is so important! And it is really fun. Good section about it in preach my gospel. How have your studies been going?

Hope you have a good week! Love you!
