Some great experiences this week in Montréal!

Hey!

Great shots from Africa!! That is so cool! I love them! Sounds like you are having an adventure! My week hasn't included any of that kind of adventure but it was great!

Oh before I forget, two things. One, how do you make rice pudding... been craving it... weird lol. And this is more for dad, but a man that comes to english class is very interested in moving to Fort McMurray. I wrote our address as an example and he was like WHAT! Anyhow, he is from Cameroon and has a masters in geology or something. As missionaries we can't really help with that but I figured I would give Dad his e-mail so he could start creating networks. 

On to missionary things, I went to a baptism in an English ward. The mans name is Kishand. Super cool guy. Elder Shaver and I sang Baptism in French for a musical number! It was pretty special because this man, I contacted on the Metro in November. I remember it pretty well, I walked on, and was super nervous. I hadn't been out too long but I followed Matt's example (his companion) and chose someone to talk to. I sat down next to the friendliest looking person I could find. Started a conversation. He is from Mauritius and had been in Montreal less than a week! He was super interested in meeting! I gave his number to the other missionaries and now he is a member. I know he will find so much joy in his life.

Other than that, we actually have had some great lessons this week, and even had a new member come out and teach with us. He was great and it was his first time.

Transfers are Wednesday and our whole district is staying! Another one with Elder Shaver! (His second last!) But we added a whole zone to the mission, so there have been big changes. Our district has jsut been chinese but now we have the missionaries from the Montreal ward (The zone leaders, AP's, and sisters) So next transfer our zone will be twice as big! I'm glad I don't have to move :P Sad thing is that Elder Williams is leaving the apartment to go to Ottawa to be Zone Leader!! Pretty cool.

Winter storm blowing through.

Teaching English Class...lol  (I'm pretty sure no one was there yet...or at least I hope no one was there yet!)  Good to see our T still has such a great sense of humour.  This is soooo him.

Glad you made it to Africa safely! Thanks for the stories about Reg, they are awesome! What a kid.

This week was great! We kept busy, and our hard work is paying off. This next week we have a lot of great things set up too! We are also working on getting a member work fireside going to help our members. The branch is doing great! I'm so happy to be in the Mandarin Branch, transfers are coming up Saturday though... I hope I stay in the branch. Other than that things are pretty normal. Really learning a lot. 

Well I officially ate the weirdest thing on my mission...... VEAL BRAINS!!!(Okay, besides looking very strange, I'm wondering if he was told that is was called Veal Brains...I mean, veal is from a calf, so is it calf brains?) It actually wasn't too bad, I mean not great, doesn't really have any flavour, and has a very strange texture. But cool nonetheless. 

And we have been cleaning are apartment so well! A clean home is a happy home!

This week was pretty cool, we were really struggling to find new people to teach, but we worked hard, then on Tuesday, we found like 5 new people interested! It was incredible! Also it was Chinese New Year! The party was great. So many people came! Then last night a couple we are teaching fed us to the brim with real Chinese food... and I ate PIG FEET!! Not my favourite :P But better than the dough balls from November with Elder Bell. 

I love all the little miracles that happen everyday. Last week I studied Mosiah and was really struck by something Abinabi said in Chapter 13 verse 7. He is talking to the priests of King Noah, and calls them out for not practicing what they preach. He says something like "How can they teach when they do not understand, when they do not live it?" It got me thinking how important it is to be obedient, to live the Gospel so that I can really teach it. I'm grateful for everything you have taught me, especially to follow the Saviour.

I can't believe you are going to Africa! That is too cool! Can't wait to see the pictures! 

Tell Dane I say Happy Birthday!

Cool about the Apple school, I think I'll get an iPad for school.(Our youngest 5 are attending a school that is implementing iPads for each child.  You have to purchase them, but they are discounted and warrantied.  Each kiddo will have their own and it will be the primary tool for learning...not sure how it will go, but they're giving it a try.)

Thank you so much for the coat! Sometimes this one is too hot :P Especially as it will be warming up soon. 

This week was pretty good. We ate dinner at Elder and Sister Cannon's house (Presidents Dad and his wife) with Amber and her friend Annie! It was great! Amber does a great job of taking care of us! Other than that it has been a usual week. Kinda stressful with people not answering their phones and stuff but I am definitely becoming more patient! Oh ya and I went on splits(a term used when 4 Elder's split up from their usual companion and pair off with another for a teaching appointment etc.) with Elder Laboulaye, so I was back downtown, where I was with Matthew. We had a great time together, knocking doors and the like. And also this week our English class went great! We started this new program developed by the Church. Two people stuck around after class and we gave them a tour! We are seeing them both later this week! Pretty excited about that!

It is pretty fun being a missionary. I love the hour of personal study we get in the mornings! The other day I read Mosiah 2 (for those of you who don't know, Mosiah is a prophet in the Book of Mormon--which is a record of the people who lived in the Western Hemisphere before/during/after Jesus' birth/life/death.  The Book of Mormon is a companion to the Bible, not a different Bible or new Bible as some people may think.  It's a great book to read!) and really thought of it like it was King Benjamin speaking to me and I was really impressed by verse 41. It says to "consider the blessed and happy state" of the people who keep God's commandments. And it is so true! I know everyone is happier when we follow these commandments and become like Jesus Christ. I thought of missionary work in a new way. We invite people to be like the Saviour, and it is like going up to people and saying "I know how you can get an A on your test" and them saying "How?" Then I say "Study!" The answer is obvious and maybe not what they were hoping for but it is true. The same thing with happiness. I know where to find ultimate happiness forever, where?, the Saviour! It is obvious but it is up for people to choose, if they don't study they will have to live with the mark they get. (Another note for those who may be confused...lol...missionaries in our church seek out those people who are truly looking for 'something' of a spiritual nature...maybe answers to questions that they haven't been able to answer...they respond to internet requests for a Book of Mormon, or visit from the missionaries--or a request for a Book of Mormon through the mail and just meeting people as they are out and about.  They do knock on doors sometimes and believe it or not, many, many people have been so grateful that the missionaries have knocked on their door!  Most of the time, people are not thrilled with 2 young men in suits knocking, but that's okay, if they're not interested, the boys move on.  They don't 'sell' religion or try to 'convert' people.  They simple share a message for those who are interested and then it's up to that person to find out for themselves if it is true through studying the scriptures and praying, and asking God to know for themselves!  I'm so glad that Taylor is excited to share this message, despite having doors slammed in his face many times!  So next time the Mormon Missionaries knock on your door, please be gentle...and if you're not interested in listening to their message, they would be happy to serve you in anyway you may need...like shovelling snow or building a fence!)  They're just young men on a 'mission'!  ;o)
